Helping out at Shepherd's Garden during the 30 Hour Famine
Our service opportunities reminds us to live the Corporal Works of Mercy proclaimed by Jesus in Matthew 25. Jesus told His followers that helping those who love us is expected as part of friendships: we are sent beyond the bounds of family and friendship to bring the love of God to all people. Jesus said our response to the hungry, thirsty, naked, homeless, ill, imprisoned and strangers among us will be considered as done to Him. Likewise, to ignore these people is to ignore Jesus. Since we, like the disciples in the Gospel, are also commissioned to live Jesus's commandment to love our neighbor we call each service action a mission.
